Few things at school stress me out more than holidays that require students to make gifts for their parents. I want my parents to be impressed and flattered, I really do, but I also want them to know that I use classroom time effectively to teach their students as much as possible.

Some of the gifts that I have seen teachers have their students make for their parents are over-the-top extravagant and, worst of all, expensive! Frankly, as a beginning teacher, I can't afford to spend more on my classroom than I already do. I love my students' parents and am so thankful for them, and I wish I had an endless supply of cash, but I would rather invest in books for my classroom library.

Last year, I created a product that would meet my needs as a teacher. Not only is the project print-and-go with no prep required, it also showcases a student's academic talent, creativity, AND - most importantly - his or her LOVE for mom!

My moms from last year absolutely loved their gifts. I gave the kids a few days to work on the papers. After I approved and the worksheets were colored, I helped the students glue the papers down on a large piece of construction paper so that it read like a real newspaper! When the final products were ready, I laminated them.

I am telling you, the moms LOVED them and I am sure they will be treasured forever.

You can find this project in my TPT store here. It is currently ON SALE!

It's me, Kristin, from My Carolina Classroom SCHOOL AND THE CITY!

Because of the big news I announced last week, I had to rename my blog and TPT store.

I've been working on a new name for weeks now. I finally settled on School and the City because it accurately describes my life AND is a play on one of my all-time favorite TV shows.

What better way to celebrate than by having a GIVEAWAY?!?

Follow along and enter below. Thanks to all of my teacher friends who donated!

This will be me this afternoon:

Last week I was gone on spring break. It was glorious.
I'll take another spring break next week, pretty please!

Because I will be moving this summer, I am changing my blog and TPT store name! The countdown is on. I'm giving away free products on Instagram while I count down to the big reveal and giveaway on Sunday! Make sure you follow along! Who doesn't love free stuff?!

I just have to brag real quick: My fearless coworker and team leader has been selected as teacher of the year for our whole learning community! I am so proud of him and all of my teammates. I am going to miss my school, especially my crazy team, SO MUCH.

Mother's Day is coming soon! I have updated my no-prep, print-and-go Mother's Day writing project. It's on sale in my store this weekend! If you already own it, make sure you redownload it for this year's date.

Lastly, I have finally downloaded the Math Slide app that a coworker recommended to me earlier this year. It is FABULOUS! It is a came for 1 to 4 players to practice all math operations and some other math skills. The kids absolutely love it and it's highly entertaining to watch!

Do you have any other fact fluency game suggestions that are for more than one player?

Have a great weekend!

Hello, from spring break!

The end of my too-short spring break is in sight and I am reveling in my final hours with down time and loved ones.

I do have to say that this spring break may have been the best one yet, because...

I'M ENGAGED!!!! (And, yes, I'm sunburnt.)

About half of the congratulatory texts/calls/comments we've received have said, "FINALLY!" I personally believe that God and my fiancé have perfect timing and I couldn't be happier.

That being said...

I've already started the job hunt, which truly is a full-time job in itself!

I've updated my resumé, portfolio, and LinkedIn. I've created a digital portfolio to include in emails since I am moving to a different state. I've sent emails to principals at my top choice schools. I've even had an interview that I think went very well!

Since I am moving, I will be changing the name of my blog and TPT store. I am kicking myself for choosing a location-based title. Stay tuned; Changes will take place this summer.

I really hate change but am embracing the excitement!

I know that great things are coming my way! EEEEEK!

Alright, back to my spring break of snoozin' and boozin'....
