Five for Friday: Teacher Workday Edition

I had a workday today.

I know you're jealous. I'm sorry. It's because our second quarter just ended.

I'm also sorry that I've been MIA lately and only making appearances on Fridays. January has been a whirlwind. I hope to get back into the blogging world soon!

HOW TO ROCK A TEACHER WORK DAY, AS TOLD BY ME:

1. Clorox everything.

EVERY THING.

And get rid of kid nastiness (AKA replace destroyed nametags because you are OCD).

2. Make your desk look like a natural disaster then fix it by shoving things in random places that you swear you'll remember but will most likely forget.

Note the date. OOPS.

3. Rework your word study groups and give them ridiculous new names.

4. Make a Target run and replace the soap in the teacher bathroom because you are too good for the standard school soap that dries out your hands, duh.

5. Get take out for lunch (obviously) and eat it while watching Netflix because the idea of a "working lunch" is ridiculous even though your team doesn't think so.

Honestly, it was a great day. It was very much needed and I got tons of work done. Of course, the workload of a teacher is endless, but at least I made a dent!

Lastly, on a serious note...

[ I'm desperate. I know. HELP. ]

I am trying to get a set of iPad minis for my classroom. I only have 3 computers but 25 students; it's nearly impossible to get all of my students on the computer fairly.

I decided to do individual DonorsChoose projects for each iPad, that way I can use the technology as they get funded instead of waiting forever for a huge $1000+ project to be funded. I am trying to get this second iPad ASAP! Having two will hold us over for a while.

This is where you come in:

Donate at least $5 to my project and get any 3 products from my TPT store for FREE!

You read that right: any 3 products can be yours, no cost limit.

Have a blessed weekend.

Five for Friiiiiday!!!

Hey, hey!! I see you, 3-day weekend!!!

Y'all. Kids are FUNNY.

We started measurement this week and the introduction investigation was for students to measure things around the room using 5 connecting cubes.

Well, naturally everyone wanted to measure Bob (my squishy little guy) because they rarely get to touch Bob. Bob is shorter than 5 cubes and was therefore placed in the "less than 5 cubes column."

I KID YOU NOT, these are some things my students said:

"Bob's not very fit."

"Bob needs to go to the gym."

"Bob needs to work out. That's why he's so round."

"Well, Bob, you aren't going to make the team."

WHAT IN THE WORLD!

I love kids.

I got a FitBit (finally) and I am obsessed. Many of my coworkers have FitBits so we participate in "daily challenges" every day and get overly competitive encourage each other at work.

This is a screenshot of my FitBit app when I got home from school yesterday. Keep in mind that this is BEFORE I went on a run, cooked dinner, did laundry, etc.

This is exactly why...

a) I have feet problems.
b) I wear ugly shoes to work.
c) I am too tired to move when I get home.
d) all of the above

[ the correct answer is d]

State benchmark testing has started.

I swear to you, I have nightmares about this stuff.
I would rather say "Voldemort" than the name of this assessment.

testing-which-must-not-be-named

I must have done something to offend all of the wiring in my classroom because all of my technology at school HATES me this year.

It takes me 20 minutes to log in to my computer every morning, my speakers only work when they're in the mood to, the Internet moves at the pace of South Carolina drivers (offense intended), and I'm on my 3rd projector of the year.

Yesterday my printer decided to die, which was actually perfectly fine with me because I was actually prepared for the rest of the week (for once) AND it displayed a hilarious message.

#RIPsoftware #RIPprinter

I have been known to be a grammar police and am now proudly promoting accurate graphing.

For some reason this email from Uber just cracked me up. (Maybe it's because it was too early on a Saturday so I was delirious; whatever.)

It is SO inaccurate that I got such a kick out of it.

WHY is the difference between $9 and $6 smaller than the difference between $6 and $5?? If Uber had made their graph mathematically correct, it would have actually worked in Uber's favor by making them look that much better.

Don't even get me started on the 46%.

(Uber, hire me if you need someone to teach your marketing people 2nd grade math.)

Lastly, on a serious note...

I love that DonorsChoose uses match codes, but it's frustrating when they only last for a week!

I would LOVE for this project to get funded while a have a match code, because with the code it can be funded for HALF the cost!!

This is where you come in:

Donate at least $5 to my project **using the matching promo code DISNEY** and get any 4 products from my TPT store for FREE!

Five for Fraturday: New Year

I apologize for being MIA, but I've been busy!

Christmas break had me like

and this week back at school had me like

so I had no time to blog. Really.

CHRISTMAS BREAK

I spent my Christmas break traveling all over the Southeast to see friends and family and spending all of my free time catching up on my sleep or Gilmore Girls.

I had every intention of doing some school work, to at least get planning done for the first week back, but I did nothing.
Nada.
Zilch.

Not a thing.

It was great.

NEW YEAR, NEW ME

Just kidding! I like me. My only resolution is to make more time to read.
In other words, books > Netflix sometimes.

However, 2015 will be bringing some major changes!

Stay tuned.

This happened today!!!!

I loved meeting everyone so that we can be friends in real life now!!

I am terrible. We did a whole Flat Stanley Christmas project (blog post coming soon) and to wrap it up I promised my students that I'd take Stanley home with me. The plan was that I would return from winter break with pictures of Stanley and I on vacation, yada yada.

I'm ridiculous, I know.

WELL, I accidentally forgot him at school. I don't think Stanley's feelings were too hurt (nor were mine) but I knew that my kids would hold me to my promise. So instead of pictures of Stanley and I on vacation, I showed my students a slideshow of pictures of Stanley making himself at home at school since I left him there on accident.

I wish I could go swimming in a pool of candy.
Stanley's living the dream.

We started letter writing this week. It has been so much fun and I love how our writing program (Being a Writer) has organized the unit. Students' first assignment was to write a letter to the teacher explaining what could make our class better.

Y'ALL.
7-year-olds are SO FUNNY.

Then the kids had to write letters to each other.
Watching their excitement reminded me why I do what I do.

Enjoy your weekend!!!
